Fragments of Forgotten Frequencies

In Concert with Ludi, Joe Fajen, and Bill Douglass

Joe Fajen (North Indian tabla, trombone, voice, and percussion), Bill Douglass (acoustic bass, bass flute, Chinese flute, and voice) and Ludi ( trombones, piano, voice, and justly tuned harps).

Using rediscovered scales and rhythms from our ancient musical inheritance, the three will take the audience on a tour through some of the pathways and findings of their past four decades of sonic searching. While the current standard tuning of "equal temperament" has almost succeeded in becoming the musical mono-language of the World, the vast spectrum of other "inconvenient" musical expressions and feelings (via alternate tunings) are like varieties of endangered species to the majority of people. The evening will also be peppered a bit with some of the compositions of the American jazz genius Thelonius Sphere Monk.
